Tegucigalpa
Heart of America,
My Capital City,
Filled with Mareros and frijoles,
Beautiful landscapes and weather,
Poverty and golpistas.
They accuse you of corruption; and I agree,
Yes, our corrupt leaders travel while their people starve I tell them.
Your city is unjust they tell me, it is true I say
For some run free after stealing millions while others rot in jail for stealing a chicken.
What an unsafe city you live in I here, yes I do, I respond,
Gangs circle my city, and we hear about crimes day and night.

But to those who criticize my city I would wish to question;
Does your city have the night life of Proceres?
Is there any other city with baleadas as good as ours?
Do friendly people as my own stroll around any place else?
Can you drive up and enjoy a picnic with a great view such as the one in el Picacho?
Have you ever experienced an extraordinary hike like the one in la Tigra?
And “no” I bet they’d answer, along with the thirst to visit Tegucigalpa, my city.

Timid Claire
Claire dragged her feet down the crowded hallway on this first day of school. She glanced from left to right. Then, she slouched as she joined the throng of students. Was anyone examining her? Although she longed to look around, she kept staring downward. However, it seemed that none of her classmates gazed at her as they dashed to their classes.

Just Because

Just because you’re busy we’ve stopped needing you,
We’re older but still need guidance,
We smile it doesn’t mean we’re happy.

Just because we don’t eat it doesn’t mean we’re not hungry,
You’re talking it doesn’t mean we're listening,
Just because you ground us we'll change.

Just because we don’t speak it doesn’t mean we don’t wish to be heard,
We talk the same way, and dress the same but don’t think alike.

Just because we speak softly doesn’t mean we don’t want to scream,
We’re failing it doesn’t mean we don’t want to be successful,
Just because you think you will doesn’t mean you can save us.

Perfect Leader, Pecrfect Society

Saint Peter
A young boy named Nate once started to wonder why his town was named Saint Peter. So he decided to ask the oldest man he knew, his grandfather. “Hey grandpa! How did our town get the name Saint Peter?” he asked. “Well Nate, we might have to sit a while to talk about this…” said Mr. Archibald.
The story went…
A couple hundred years ago in the town where the Archibald family lived when people got sick o r ill they would go to a magician. But another man claimed he could cure anyone as well, Peter Petrelli. Peter was hated by the magician community of the town who called themselves “The Saviors”. Some encouraged him to take classes and get his Savior Certificate “for your own good” they would say. Peter refused he was loyal to health care methods his father had taught him and was sure they were effective. The Saviors harassed him whenever they got the chance; they even made a chant against Petrelli. The chant went “Peter Petrelli the fake, false, forged, and smelly always so shady oh the petty”.
After a Wednesday meeting the Saviors announced they required the people to pay for their services. Many were ok with this, but the poor were worried the day would come for one of them to get ill and not be able to meet for the services.
A couple weeks later a women with low resources got bit by a snake and went running to the home of one of the Saviors. He refused to treat her, for he knew her economic means. She was close to death when crawling on the streets begging for help when Peter Petrelli ran into her. HE carried a bag with an emergency kit and was able to save her life free of charge. The women thanked him and being so grateful of this man she went and told everyone she knew about her experience. Peter Petrelli became a hero to the poor and the rich of his home town.
After saving the poor women, others came to him for help. The Saviors started to loath him even more than before; they discussed him and decided chants weren’t enough anymore. The planned to get rid of him one way or another, for the people became to doubt on the powers these magicians claimed to have. A couple months passed and Peter had gotten attacked a few times but nothing major. But he did earn the respect of the whole town, people talked about him as a saint, Saint Peter; he was even referred as one in church.
On a summer day, Saint Peter was visited by the first women he saved and her daughter. Little Marissa as they called her had been sick for a few weeks now as well as other kids from her school. After examinations Peter was stunned to find blue rashes on the girl and blood coming out of her eyes. He had never seen anything like it and decided to keep the girl under observation; he gave her many types of syrup which made her feel better but didn’t cure her completely. Shortly after other kids came to him as well, and then adults. Everyone was scared and started to get sick with this curios disease. Peter started to study the roots of it and discovered it was a plague of rats which were the cause. He showed everyone how to prevent getting sick and found a cure along with one of the magicians; that was then shunned from the Saviors. Everyone was so happy they named him mayor of the town.
Peter changed the laws which were imposed by The Saviors and made non magical practices legal instead of frowned upon like before. Everyone loved him since he ruled fairly and was nice to all, even to the Saviors. After his death the town was named in his honor.
“And that Nate, is why our town is called Saint Peter.” finished Mr. Archibald.

Classic Parallels

This letter was written by Abigail Adams for her husband John Adams. They had been apart for about a month now and she wished to express how much she missed him. She also wishes him luck in his fight towards independence for their country. Abigail also feels concern regarding the difficulties her husband and fellow patriots will find in the battle for their country. On top of the worries she has concerning their fight for independence John’s wife feels lonely without him.
Rhetorical Devices:
1.      “I cannot think of it without horror.” (Abigail Adams 676)
®    This is an example of how the author tries to appeal to the reader’s emotion. It is important to this letter in particular because Abigail is trying to make her husband feels what she is feeling regarding the situation at hand; she feels terrified.
2.      “Did ever any Kingdom or State regain their Liberty, when it was invaded without Bloodshed?” (Abigail 676)
®    This is an example of a rhetorical question. Abigail is wily when using this rhetorical device in her letter because it makes her husband really think about the war and how hard it will be to obtain liberty without spearing lives, she also tells John how much she wishes no more deaths are caused by the war.

Patrick Henry

Yes, we need to break free from the British; the wise Patrick Henry has previously communicated this to you. Whoever is a patriot to the country of America like him and me, I invite you to join the cause. This land belongs to those who love it and wish for it to prosper. Sadly, I am hurt to notify you that the alliance with His Majesty will not allow any prospering for the colonies. Regarding Patrick Henry’s speech in the Virginia Convention I have to oppose a few of his ideas on the Revolution. I’m afraid to disagree with the statement communicated by the respected orator; ‘’Sir, we are not weak, if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power’’. With all respect I have to differ with Henry, faith in God and the desire of freedom are not ‘’arms´´ to fight against the British. Yes, these aspects are necessary to be successful in battle but this will not be triumphant with war. If war is what will come what the colonists need to succeed are allies, such as the Native Americans. Even though some may consider making an alliance with the French as treason to Britain I say to these, treason is what they have done to us, their people. The British have betrayed us by treating us as foreigners and imposing unreasonable taxes and allowing dreadful authorities to rule us.
Patrick Henry also sated war was the only option left for the colonies, I disagree. There is always a better way, violence is NEVER the solution. What I have to propose instead of war to the American Colonies would be influential acts to encourage everyone in America to oppose the British. What we need is a large passionate faction of revolutionary. Peaceful revolutionaries will be stronger than violent tyrant British red coats. This may seem contradictory to my past statement but what I mean by peaceful revolutionaries is people who are willing to fight without violence for their country. With changes such as a new government and different set of laws can break us free from Britain. Though I do suggest to all colonies of America we conclude in good terms with the British after all we do need a number of resources they have to offer, and they need some from us as well. I am aware this may seem impossible at a time like this; but impossible is nothing and with the effort of all of those who aspire to liberty and those who are willing to fight, in a civilized manner, we can change our country.
Winding up this communication on the revolution of our country I would like to thank Patrick Henry for being such an inspiring patriot to the American Colonies. And noting him on saying one of the most powerful statements ever said by any man, ‘’ give me liberty or give me death!’’. I could not agree more, surely he will go down in history; let’s fight for this amazing country!

Anti Hypocrisy

In our world today we find ourselves with many issues. From corrupt governments, poverty, alcohol and drug addiction to smaller issues such as bullying alongside many others. A lot of these problems arise from the human issue of honesty. Some alcoholics find themselves in unsuitable situations because they were never able to accept they had this disease and reach out for help. Girls suffering from depression and anorexia die because they weren’t capable of accepting themselves for whom they were. Looking into schools we find the immense dilemma: bullying. Boys bully each other in situations such as sports. While girls demonstrate more viciousness with the way they relate to each other.

The most common way girls intimidate one another is by forming cliques. Not only do we see the bullying in girls when there is no acceptance to other girls when they wish to incorporate to the respective clique; but within the clique itself. Inside each clique there is usually a leader; the other members follow her in many aspects. For instance choice in fashion, hair cut, and the way she speaks. If the leader chooses to harass one of the members of the group, so do the others. Usually here is where the hypocrisy with girls begins.

Hypocritical girls could grow with this feature and have problems in their professional life as well as in their personal life. And this is why it should be avoided, how, by working with girls since their elementary years. This piece goes to girls from elementary who wish to have lifelong friendships and evade becoming a hypocrite.

Do you have older sisters or cousins? You might have talked with them about the problems they have had with their friends at school. But, if you start to use the tips given to you in this piece you may avoid some of those gloomy stories you’ve heard about the friendzillas girls these days run into. The biggest tip I could give you as a 15 year old girl is not to be a hypocrite.

What is Hypocrisy? Hypocrisy according to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary is: a feigning to be what one is not to believe what one does not. In easier words would be to pretend to be someone you’re not. This doesn’t just refer to using a wig or speaking like somebody else, but also to act like you didn’t say something you didn’t or that you like someone you hate.

Being left alone can be the biggest fear girls have in school. That’s why cliques are formed. The terrible situation some come across is feeling alone once in a clique. Girls can be mean, it’s a fact. When girls have sleepovers or other activities and one of them doesn’t attend she will always wonder if the others trashed her. If they do, you usually find out. However, the worst thing is when they pretend they didn’t. This is hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is definitely in the top 5 nastiest girl aspects list. If you want to be remembered by your classmates as the nicest coolest girl instead of the friendzilla, don’t be a hypocrite! To accomplish this, live by these rules.

ANTI HYPOCRISY RULE #1

Be honest with yourself. To do this you have to know yourself, what you like, what you dislike etc. If you don’t want friendzillas don’t be one either. If you don’t like liars don’t lie; if you dislike when other girls laugh at you don’t laugh at them. This is easy, before talking about everyone’s flaws change yours first. If you were to be flawless then you would be allowed to criticize others.

ANTI HYPOCRISY RULE #2

We all get angry at our friends from time to time, but whatever the reason may be do not talk about her behind her back. Instead talk to her about it, this will avoid future problems. Promise! But girls have temptations, we just can’t resist; so if you do talk trash about her make sure to apologize to her as soon as possible. But don’t be a friendzilla with the other girl you did this with, apologize together; make sure you do this in a nice way as well.

ANTI HYPOCRISY RULE #3

Don’t be friends with someone whom you don’t like! This is something that can fill you up with hate. The quote ‘’keep your friends close and your enemies closer’’ can ruin you. Why, why, why would somebody do this? If you don’t like someone you shouldn’t make their life miserable, but why make yours by being his/her friend? Some would say this is the biggest act of hypocrisy a person can perform.

If you choose not to follow these rules you could have consequences. For example, what could happen if you and a bunch of your friends talk behind another’s back? Since you can’t control what other girls say, nor do, one of them could tell this girl about it and you could lose a friend. A huge mistake girls often make is, talk mean stuff about other people with boys. Keep in mind the following, guys hate this! Boys aren’t like girls; they aren’t interested in such rubbish. And at the end of the day you are the one he won’t like not whomever you spoke about; to his eyes and ears you’re the mean one for doing this not him or her for whatever they did.

Having a hypocrite free world could lead to having fewer issues. Not issue free, but these would be easier to solve. If we weren’t so hypocritical we would solve our problems faster and wouldn’t have the immense ones we have now. And attacking hypocrisy in an early age will create future men and women who will be able to talk every small or big problem they are presented with in the future.
